About

Jazz Calls Home is the experimental pop project of Spanish-Colombian artist Jazz Alvarado Segovia. Drawing inspiration from artists like Björk and SOPHIE, her electronic soundscapes transform personal experiences into immersive sonic tapestries.

Born in Bogotá, Colombia, into a family of music lovers and musicians of Andalusian, Swedish, and Kazakh descent, Jazz began her musical journey at the age of 3. After early cello lessons and performing in youth orchestras, she became a professional songwriter in her teens. This career path was paused and later resumed after she completed her university studies in film scoring and music production.

Political unrest in Colombia abruptly changed Jazz’s life, forcing her to emigrate to Montreal, Canada. This sudden change became the catalyst for her solo career, driven by the powerful emotions of isolation and loneliness in a new country.

A talented sound sculptor, Jazz blends experimental electronic sounds with genres like glitch pop, fluxwork, and electropop. Her deeply personal lyrics serve as tools for profound self-expression and emotional processing, channeling traumatic experiences and exploring dystopian themes to cope with the complexities of life.

Since her 2020 debut, Jazz Calls Home has released two EPs, an album, and several singles. In 2024, Jazz signed with Rexius Records, ready to share more of her unique soundscapes with the world.

The burden of violence (2020)

The Burden of Violence (2020) is the first EP released under Jazz Calls Home. It follows up through the chaotic displacement Jazz suffered in late 2019, the start of the coronavirus Pandemic, the failings of the Colombian political system and their abuse of power.

While The Burden of Violence was being written, Jazz received a confirmed diagnosis of PTSD. Dealing with extreme hyper-vigilance and paranoia, the repetitive and entrancing synths are representative of a state of PTSD flashbacks and a brain who is unable to process trauma at the moment.

No Answer (2021)

During late 2020 and early 2021, Jazz fell extremely ill. After having a few severe neurological episodes, and a misdiagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis, Jazz questions in this EP the mishaps within the medical system. No Answer (2021) is an account of falling ill within a collapsed medical system and finding no concrete answers from medical professionals.

No Answer also explores the feelings of loneliness and despair while being sick, and questions the use of certain medical techniques and procedures where the consent of patients is not always considered.

who i was before I died (2022)

Still ill and searching for help, Jazz was prescribed IV Prednisone while hospitalized. She had a severe allergic reaction to it (anaphylaxis) and coded (effectively died) for a few seconds.

Who I Was Before I Died (2022) is an account of events happening right before this event, including getting over-prescribed medication, and receiving psychedelic-assisted treatment for her PTSD.

This EP is a very fragmented view of those instances.

There’s new music underway

Don’t cry about it, it will be ok.
